Notes:   n.a. means “not available”.    All meters use a Hall-effect type of probe.

[a]  Resolution is the Least Significant Digit (LSD) shown on screen for range selected.

[b]  Accuracy will depend on field strength, Range setting, Resolution, DC vs AC mode, Frequency, Zero-Gauss chamber, temperature, warm-up time.

[c] This best accuracy in Gauss or Tesla on lowest range is for a DC (static) weak field (below 100-times the resolution). Error is larger if measuring a stronger field, or AC field, or if no zeroing.

[d]  For best accuracy for Low-field probes: probes MOS51 and MOS81 are designed for use in a volume of uniform magnetic field around the probe at least 7000cc (0.25 cu.ft): for example a cylindrical volume 10cm (4") radius x 22cm (9") long, and MOS probes frequency response is DC to 700 Hz (-3dB point). Low-field probe MOX81 is designed for use in a volume of 84 liters (3 cu.ft) of uniform magnetic field, and MOX81 frequency response is DC to 400 Hz (-3db point). MOX81 also requires use of large zero-gauss chamber YA-112.

Conversion between Gauss, Tesla, and A/m, in air or free space:

         1 kA/m  = 1.26 mT  = 12.6 G                1 G = 0.1 mT = 0.079 kA/m
         1   A/m  = 1.26 uT   = 12.6 mG              5 G = 0.5 mT = 0.40 kA/m

The magnitude of the Earth's magnetic field at its surface ranges from 0.25 to 0.65 gauss, (0.025 to 0.065 mT), (250 to 650 mG), (25 to 65 μT).

For gaussmeters to measure AC magnetic fields only see AC Gaussmeter  tab at top of page.
